Avasi - lookout

The lookout point is currently under renovation, and is expected to be open again from December 2023.

Located in the center of Miskolc, the 10-meter-high observation deck offers a 180-degree view of the city. An open terrace and a cozy cafe ensure a sumptuous experience!

A little bit of history:

The Avasi lookout, which is considered one of the best-known symbols of Miskolc, was built in 1963 based on the designs of Miklós Hófer and György Vörös. There were wooden structures to the east of today's lookout, e.g. the Rákóczi Lookout. In 1901, the Bükk Association of Borsodi decided to erect the first lookout tower, which served as a fire watch tower. However, even in 1906, when Rákóczi's ashes were transported to Kassa, they could only erect a temporary viewing platform. The tower was completed in 1934 based on the plans of Bálint Szeghalmy, chief city engineer. In 1943, it suffered serious but repairable damage in connection with a fire. In December 1956, however, it burned down to such an extent that for years only its spiral staircase was visible.

Today's Avasi viewpoint was handed over in 1963, and only minor renovations have been carried out since then. The viewing terrace, from which we can admire the beauties of Miskolc, is free to visit. There is a cafe on the upper floor.

A slightly scary interesting thing about the tower is that the maximum swing of the upper antennas is 45 cm!

Ellipsum experience bath

In the valley of the baths, in the embrace of the Bükk National Park, in Miskolcapolca, the Ellipsum Experience and Beach Baths, which takes its special name from its five ellipsoidal buildings, awaits its guests. The imposing halls cover an area of over 7,000 square metres, forming a separate but coherent unit, and guarantee adults, teenagers and children alike a relaxing experience 365 days a year.

The unique spa complex is the second phase of the Miskolcapolca spa development, a collective, all-encompassing unit with the first phase, the renovated Strandbad, opened in 2015.

With over 5,000 square metres of floor space, the barrier-free complex has a separate section for each age group to ensure that all generations of the family can enjoy a relaxing holiday.

With four seasonal services, the water park offers 3 themed pool halls for different age groups, 6 indoor and 2 outdoor pools, 3 giant slides and countless other water attractions to make every minute of your swim a memorable experience. With futuristic, elegant interiors and a capacity of 750 guests at a time, the modern facility is designed to communicate with guests with hearing impairments

also equipped with support tools. The total water surface is over 1100 square metres.

Diósgyőr Castle

The walls of the Diósgyőr castle were built on a rock hill protruding from the valley of the Szinva stream. Anonymus, the 13th-century Anonymous chronicler, mentions that an earthen castle stood here already during the conquest, which may have been destroyed around 1241 during the Tatar invasion. ARC. After the Tatar invasion, King Béla donated the place to his favorite follower, Ernye Bán. Palatine István, son of Ernye bán, was the builder of the first stone castle surrounded by an oval ring and equipped with two round towers.
